Motocross Grand Prix of Australia Website

To gear up for the MXGP of Australia, we developed a dynamic and comprehensive website. This platform not only introduces the sport to new audiences but also evolves to include ticketing and hospitality details as the event approaches. Additionally, the website promotes Northern Territory (NT) tourism by showcasing the region's attractions alongside the event. Our strategy involved a full audit of information, UX design with detailed user flows, and a phased rollout of features.

The Brief

A multifaceted and engaging event website.

MXGP is the premier global motocross racing championship, and after a 24-year absence, the competition will return to Australia in 2025. The Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC) tasked Marketforce with designing, developing, and delivering a brand-new website.

NTMEC needed an intuitive platform that would enable the creation of dynamic, modern content to promote both the event and Northern Territory tourism.

As NTMEC had not yet selected a ticketing platform, flexibility and a strong foundation for future integrations were crucial. With ticket sales as the website's primary goal, it was essential to build a site that could seamlessly integrate with various ticketing platforms.

The project required delivery within a tight timeline making careful planning, time management, and exceptional project coordination essential to success.

Our Approach

A phased, user-centric website design & development.

We knew from the start that we needed to create a detailed, staged website capable of evolving alongside the event. Our process began with a comprehensive audit of all relevant information to ensure its accuracy and completeness.

Through an in-depth discovery workshop, we identified that the website’s primary goal was not only to drive ticket sales but also to promote the five distinct MXGP classes: MXGP, MX2, WMX, MX3, and MX85—each with its own unique program. The site needed to cater to both domestic and international visitors, helping them plan their trips to the event while showcasing the Northern Territory’s natural beauty and enhancing the state’s reputation as an international tourist destination.

The UX design centred on intuitive navigation and engaging user flows, ensuring visitors could easily find what they were looking for. The initial launch focused on introducing the sport and the event, with future updates planned to add ticketing and hospitality details. By integrating NT tourism throughout the site, we ensured visitors could also explore the region's attractions, enhancing their overall experience.

We chose Storyblok as the ideal CMS platform to meet NTMEC’s requirements. Unlike traditional systems burdened by outdated architectures, Storyblok offers a modern, flexible CMS that delivers improved performance.

To streamline content creation, the platform’s powerful preview feature enables content managers to produce high-quality, visually consistent content that elevates the user experience. Built-in, automated asset optimisation ensures images are perfectly displayed on any device, with fast load times and a highly performant browsing experience.

The Results

On time, on budget.

The MXGP Australia website launched in October 2024, on time and to budget. The website has been well-received by fans and staff alike, providing strong ticket sales.

Elevated support from the team at Marketforce, including in-depth training sessions with the team at NTMEC, has ensured a smooth launch. The new platform has provided a strong basis for future development and growth for MXGP through ticket sales and sponsorship/ad revenue.
